Washington, D.C.

Madam:
I have the honor to acknowledge
the receipt of your note and the memorial
it enclosed relative to the Establishment
of Schools for female teachers
by donation of public lands.
I have read the memorial and
the views it expresses are certainly worthy
the consideration of Congress. Although I
could not without more reflection assure
you that the measure should have my
support, yet the name of its advocate
as well as the importance of the proposition
will make me examine it
with attention
I have the honor to remain
[Respy?] W. Preston.
