Text

40 Pall Mall London May 30th [?]

Madam,

About three weeks since I had
the pleasure to receive the Copy of Northwood
you did me the favor of sending through [?]
[Wait & Son.?] I have read the work with very
sincere pleasure, but I am afraid to venture upon
a reprint. The expense of getting up a Work of
any magnitude here is considerable - arising in
a great degree from the heavy Advertising Duty.
I have not however trusted to my own judgment
but have shewn it to three of our first publishers
without being able to make any
arrangement - & now it would not be practicable,
many copies having found their way to
London. I have just received some from [Messers?]

Cary & Lea.
I should have felt much pleasure
in informing you of a different result, & trust
the want of success in the present instance will
not deprive me of any subsequent favor
With respect, I am Madam,
Your Obed Servt
John Miller
