Project Assumption
Washington Square Park has a substantial influence on the design of my structure. The building reaches out to the park and structurally implies conceptual trees enclosing a modern building giving the feeling of my concept “The Urban Tree House.” The Athenaeum of 2050 will house original documents as well as digital labs to view the original copies yet minimize the physical interaction. “The Urban Tree House” ties together the historical roots of the Athenaeum with the digital era of the future.
Project Statement
Holding a physical book in ones hand is a traditional experience; yet with the rise of technology, digital copies of the equivalent material are just as relevant. Designing a contemporary structure to house both these historical roots as well as accommodating the digital era constructs, implies the creation of uniquely configured spaces. Being 2050 it is under assumption the culture has drastically transformed. Taking today’s “smart devices” and transforming them into complete “smart buildings” will be the new progression.
