Project Assumption
In the year 2050, the Athenaeum should obviously be progressed in technology; however it is important to keep the original roots of the Athenaeum. Digital books have been taking over books and it is a good thing that this is happening. In 20150, this world will be relying on technology greatly. Materials play a great role as well. In the year 2050 the building itself may not be digitally fabricated but the books and sources it holds will be digital and books will be less significant in the library world. Also it will enhance the way people think.
Project Statement
The concept of this design is to connect the experience of the Washington Square Park with the experience of the new and improved Athenaeum. Originally, the thought was to literally have a green bridge connect from the park to the building. However, as the design progressed so did the concept of the design. The axis from the center of the park created the circulation path of the Athenaeum, separating the public from the private making the library the sacred place that is a journey to get to. The concept has progressed to becoming the idea of experience based from the circulation the park provides.
