Project Assumption

In 2050 Libraries will still have an importance in society even with internet, and the advancement of technologies. A book is something special, special in the way it has been used throughout all of history, and to completely have them gone in the future seems really hard to imagine. If anything, technology can help a library with new digital centers. No one knows the future, but if books were to be gone, the Athenaeum would still stand tall and proud for the museum it is.

Project Statement

You go by the Athenaeum today and do not notice the library. The Majority of the locals across the street in Washington Square Park did not know what the Athenaeum was. In the future this building has to be more public. Engaging with the community will solve this problem.
The community of Society Hill, love their beautiful historic landmark: Washington Square. What better way is there to engage with the public, as well as engaging with the landmark itself, than to connect with the park.
Not only is this concept to be more public but it is also to create a connection with the park itself, by introducing a vertical garden wall, it will allow nature/public to gradually become part of the site: The Athenaeum.
