[ED: letterhead of THIRTY-NINTH CONGRESS, U.S.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
Washington, D.C.]
July 12 1886
Miss Sarah J. Hale
Dear Madam
I am in recpt. of
your note of yesterday and
thank you for it. It is
plain there is little or
no time for progress on
the important subject of
the "Resolution" during
the present session.
If [?] and time
permit I intend most
thoroughly to examine
the subject during the
vacation. [I?] will of
course [press?] Congress
for action at the
next session. [?] Res.
men intended as a
mere [?] intent
the claim [could?]
[be?] [urged?] next session.
It will give me
pleasure in the
mean time to
receive any commentary
you may please to
send. My home is
"Litchfield Conn."
Very respectfully
