My Dear Mrs. Hale:
I have been ill
since a few days after you were
here. First, I had congestion of
the somach [stomach?]. Then a pain in my
face - and now the influenza.
I should have been in the City
of Penn ere this if I had been
in my usual health.
I did not see you at the great
dinner at the Crystal Palace
on the 27th Ult. It was brilliant.
Your letter reached me in due time.
I had three copies made from
your explanatory letter, which
I sent to Dr. Thorn, Professor
Eaton, and Professor Gray.
At the earliest moment I was
able, I took the original letter
and "The Bible Reader to Mrs.
Packer. She bade me say to
you that she would do all
in her power for its success.
She said she would recommend
it to the Principal of The
Packer Institute.
I have seen the Booksellers,
but none of the them seem willing
to order the book until it
is introduced into some of the
schools. I told them that
I would take half of them,
but this would not do.
They had rather wait until
there was a certain [DE: call] sale
for it. I feel disposed to
do all in my power for
its success.
If this influenza should
leave me I may be in
Philadelphia this week;
if it does not I cannot
say when I will be there.
Let me hear from you soon,
and believe me,
Yours ever
Estelle.
