Project Assumption
As cities continue to densify into the future, green space will become more sacred. If the public can be exposed to green space in a meaningful as well as intellectual way, then places where nature is the organizer will become a frequent means of defining sacred space in our cities. As the world goes digital, the physical books will remain but for those who prefer the more modernized way of gathering information, they will have the ability to do so.
Project Statement
With the removal of the historical Athenaeum building, the site will be left as a void, a sacred green space in a city that will grow denser with time. Green space will become Philadelphia’s new “pride and ornament”. In the Athenaeum of 2050, nature will be the organizer in which built space will be incorporated. The green space will allow for both members and the public to have a tranquil place to reflect and absorb the knowledge the future Athenaeum will provide them with.
