Glen's Falls N.Y.
Oct 25th 1853

My Dear Aunt

We have been surprised
and gratified by a recent visit from
she that was Emeline [Buell?], now
living in Bytown Canada - In
speaking of Father she enquired
if we had not a daguerreotype
of him - to which I replied - we had
not & regretted it very much -
She then said that you had
a portrait taken while he
was a college student which
looked very much like him
I thought I would write to see
if you could be induced to
part with it - if not to let us
take it & have another painted
by it - I cannot tell you how
much pleasure it would

afford us to have in our possession
the likeness of one whose memory
is so tenderly cherished -
We are now living in Glen's Falls
& very pleasantly situated - I hope
after Sister Martha gets settled
in Troy you & the Cousins will
make it convenient to visit
us - Say to Josepha that we
should be very glad indeed
to have her spend one of
her coming vacations with us
Martha is to be married on
Tuesday next - we are making
preparations to attend the
wedding - I have but one child
a bright active boy nearly four
years old, named after our
father.
The Dr joins me in a
kind remembrance to you
& the Cousins Affectionately
E.B. Holden
