Project Assumption
The Athenaeum will continue to be a place to store and display artifacts and books. In addition, it will be a place for people to share social experiences (with auditoriums and theatres) as well as provide private spaces for contemplation and exploration (with research studios and workstations). The common thread weaving these two spaces together is the interconnectedness to the people who populate them. These curious and inquisitive minds can turn into a knowledge network with awesome potential and capacity for learning, researching and making connections. This is how the new Athenaeum can become a forum for existing knowledge as well as a springwell for new thought, future artifacts and new knowledge.
Project Statement
It is anticipated that significant synergy and streamlining will be the result of community networking and the integration of library and museum functions. A growing relationship and evolving roles with the community and society will strongly color the overall environment and infrastructure. Through the involvement of libraries, museums, research, and technology, a new hybrid institution will rise to the central issues, challenges, and opportunities for libraries and museums of the future.
