Description
An account of the resource
Spar coatings were originally used as water-resistant finishes on ship masts. Companies such as the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company appropriated the term "spar" for their products to capitalize on the perception that marine finishes provided superior resiliency. In the 1920s Pittsburgh Plate Glass marketed its Waterspar products as an easy way for homeowners to refinish furniture, wood and floors. Waterspar's selling points included its ease of use, variety of colors, short drying time, glossy finish, and waterproof properties.
